Statement of the Party of Labour of Austria concerning the developments in the CP of the Peoples of Spain

The Party of Labour of Austria (Partei der Arbeit Österreichs, PdA) considers it as its duty to position itself concerning the recent developments in the Communist Party of the Peoples of Spain (Partido Comunista de los Pueblos de España, PCPE). It is far from our minds to interfere in internal affairs which do not concern us, but it is necessary to take responsibility within the European and international framework.

Our political assessment is that the PCPE with which the PdA has developed fraternal and solidary relations during the years and would like to maintain and foster bilateral relations in the future is represented by the Central Committee with comrade Ástor García as Secretary General and the Political Secretariat appointed by the Fifth Plenum of the Central Committee. This follows both from the political content of the declarations and corresponds also to our experiences as part of the international communist movement. From our point of view, it is also of importance that the Collectives of Young Communists (Colectivos de Jóvenes Comunistas, CJC), with which the Communist Youth of Austria (Kommunistische Jugend Österreichs, KJÖ) maintains fraternal relations, declared their support to the CC under the leadership of comrade Ástor García.

In addition, we would like and are compelled to remark that from our standpoint the allegations made and the slanders spread by the group of Carmelo Suárez und Julio Díaz against fraternal parties are utterly unacceptable and reprehensible. The PdA condemns this behaviour and such arbitrary allegations, which harm the international communist movement and expose only those who articulate them. The discussion and argument within the international communist movement and the European Communist Initiative in particular must not be conducted by such unprincipled methods.

Finally, we would like to declare that we agree with the proposal and approach of the Secretariat of the European Communist Initiative and find it appropriate.
